SLYCK Movement 2012 (Almost)

While I have only been apart of #teamSLYCK for a short amount of time, it is hard not to completely fall in love with it all. First and foremost it is empowering to watch a young woman have a goal and continuously work hard to make her dream come true. In the midst of me assisting in helping another woman’s dream come true, I am working towards to make mine come true as well. Sharpening my PR skills in an independent project separate from school and school organizations, is challenging and exciting at the same time. Challenging because there is no immediate feedback from a Professor, but exciting because I make the rules — which is the ultimate dream come true!

I am not one to go for what’s “in” or trendy. I’m more of a boots, leggings, hoodies, and a sloppy bun kind of girl. But being around Raven and the SLYCK team has made me really want to take a deeper look into the fashion world, and be aware of the trends and all of the fashion-y things that are going on. Raven has not only inspired me to sharpen my fashion sense, but she has also inspired me to dream BIG and to never let anyone tell me that I can’t do what ever it is that I want.

I’m not sure of what the future holds for me and my time with SLYCK, but I am definitely enjoying it while it is here. In the midst of preparing for the SLYCK Movement for 2012 (which we will talk about SOON), I decided to make a video as a way to recap this past year that SLYCK has had. We as a team are very excited to get started on all the fun things we will be doing in 2012 and would love to have you all come along for the ride! Whether you’re a model, investor, photographer, or you simply want to help in making SLYCK  a global name, email us at SLYCKtees@gmail.com

Enjoy the video!

A woman with many hats.

Taking a break from politics for a moment (don’t worry, I will talk about Herman Cains scandal and how the lovely Ann Coulter talking about how “our blacks are better than their blacks”), I have come to really realize the many roles I play on a daily basis. Not sure how I have overlooked the fact that I always appear to resemble a chick with its head cut off — maybe because it is so routine to me.

While I may believe that I do a great job at juggling all things from being a human to being a super woman (what? you didn’t know?) I will admit there is room for improvement.

However, there is no way I can stop now, I’m on a roll! There are lots of exciting things going on right now.

SLYCK by Raye S (@SLYCKbyRayeS) still continues to be a client of PR Divas. Ihave taken the title of Director of Marketing & Public Relations with high hopes of making the line a house hold name. PR Divas and SLYCK pulled off a very successful fashion show this month. While it was the second fashion show I have worked on, the experience was very different but still awesome. Now I am working with Raven and her executive assistant Tyricha Snow on the SLYCK movement for 2012. I am so excited to be putting together a plan for next year. Stay tuned (and like us on facebook: SLYCK by Raye S)!

ODU’s PRSSA just presented our PaRtner’s Plan to the COPRSA chair. It was a slightly nerve wrecking because we were all wondering if they would like our ideas (they did btw) and now the real planning must begin! I have never even attended a conference, but now I get to help host one.

Being a Resident Assistant is probably the heaviest hat of all. Mostly because within this role, there are other roles I am expected to be. It is also challenging to make myself available to my residents frequently.

Black Student Union had an entire BSU Week where we hosted our annual Coffee House and event did some community service at the Boys & Girls club nearby. That day was my favorite! We had a candy scavenger hunt and you can only imagine kids and their candy. We will teaming up Sister Network from Capital and Campus Ministry on our campus for a big Christmas event — details soon.

PR Divas continues to thrive through SLYCK. And right now we are working on new ways to truly embrace our diva-bility and define who we are. Are we just a couple of college kids having fun in hopes of building our resume? Or can we really take this to the next level and be completely self employed by the time we graduate? I believe we can be great! We are both planning on spending our summer in St. Louis (I am looking for a paid internship there btw — know anyone? email me!) and hopefully we can pick up some summer clients and small projects while we’re there.

I am in love with my busy schedule (I would love it even more if there more hours in the day), but some days I do wonder “how am I even functioning right now?” “Am I doing too much?” I just always keep the mind-set that it will all be worth it some day.

Did I mention I am officially double majoring in Communications and Public Relations?

It never ends.

**Any advice to help me stay sane every once in a while? Would love to hear it!
