Music Monday | Ibeyi | Drake/PND

Just as I expected, Ibeyi’s debut self-titled album is amazing. No, it’s not the album you would put on before you hit the club with your friends. It’s that album you put on when you need to have a clear mind and meditate.

There are lots of drums and the singing is beautiful. To be honest, I have no idea what they’re saying – but their voices are enchanting.

If you’re looking for an album to do some yoga to, this is definitely it.

Doing a complete 180 here…

Drake dropped his “If You’re Reading This Its Too Late” mixtape…album or whatever you wish to call it.

Sidebar: he broke a record with this album that only The Beatles have made. Damn!

The mixtape was great but the song that intrigued me the most was the Wednesday Interlude ft. PARTNEXTDOOR.

I’m not sure why this track stands out to me. Maybe it is the sound of sorrow in his voice? It almost sounds like he’s pleading with someone. Not to mention the beat is inticing. This song makes me feel his pain. Ya know?

You know I’m a sucker for an inticing beat over a pleading beautiful voice.

Anyway…

You can purchase Ibeyi’s debut album on iTunes as well as Drakes mixtape (you can also find Drakes mixtape free online but I didn’t know that before I spent $14.99 on it on iTunes but I mean I guess it’s okay because it turned out to be a really great album…I mean mixtape).

As always…Check it out and let me know what you think!

Throwback Thursday | “All Is Full of Love” – Bjork

I’ve been in my feelings lately (I blame Drake) so most of the music I have been indulging in are sappy love songs.

This one in particular is not one that captures many people I know but it is on my top 10 of my all time favorite songs, EVER!

Bjork is an Icelander singer/songwriter who I know nothing about but this song.

I saw this video on MTV a long time ago on a random day at 2am. At first, I was extremely confused and thrown off by the two female, kissing robots who clearly were in love. But after hearing the song again, the video began to make sense.

Not sure where director, Chris Cunningham, was going with this one but here is what I get:

“You’ll be given love, you’ll be taken care of.”

The song is talking about everything being full of love. No matter what you do, where you go, who you talk to, you should do it all with love. Remove all hate from your heart and fill yourself with love and peace. If two lesbian robots can find love and feel loved, so can you. But, don’t you go out trying to rush love. You will be given it when it is your time to receive it.

This video is….different. I challenge you to look beyond the obvious and really listen to the lyrics and understand the concept.

Let me know what you think!
