Ya girl is 28 years young today! 🎉 . . These two moments while mild, reminded me how resilient I have always been. I thank my mother and the women in my life who have raised me up for my "get it by any means" mentality. . . The first picture is from my Pom-Pom dance class. My mom enrolled me after I tried out for the drill team and didn't make it. I was CRUSHED! Boo-hoo cried my eyes out 😂 Instead of sulking in that moment, I took the classes, improved my skills, and the following year tried out for the cheerleading team and made it! . . My cheerleading skills overall (IMHO) were dope. But as a plus size, top heavy lady, some skills were hard for me - like tumbling. I was never good at it - like at all. However, this was a requirement to be on the varsity team. I had never attempted any gymnastics at try-outs until my senior year. And guess what ya'll....I STILL didn't make the varsity team senior year (WTF). . . So you mean to tell me despite doing everything right I STILL didn’t make the team? Despite the fact that I studied AmeriCheer comps when they were played on ESPN I still didn’t have what it takes to make the dance team? . . There’s so many other situations in my life like this but one thing is certain, I never folded. I put my passion, drive, and willingness to succeed in every situation and even if that particular scenario didn’t pan out, something bigger and better came after that. . . This post is low key a humble brag but also a celebration of being determined and relentless. I’m proud of me for that! Let’s see what 28 brings my way 😊

2019 has pulled, pushed, and stretched me in so many ways I couldn’t imagine. Stop posting about how “fake” people are because they don’t support your business. Stop expecting your friends to buy every product or service you offer. Stop complaining about your clients/customers online. . . Not only is this unprofessional, it deters people from wanting to work with you. It is not cool to shame others online, especially if they are people you have a working relationship with. Stop focusing on the non-supporters and be your own hype man! . . In my opinion, venting is healthy. But you must find a safe space to do so in private and be mindful about the energy you put out into the world.

If you’re a one woman/man show, setting up automations and planning is key to keeping sanity. . . Yes, outsourcing is important as well but I encourage you to avoid doing this until you are 1,000% READY and operational. . . How do you know if you’re ready? A few questions to ask yourself: 1) Do I have the resources to outsource this task? 2) Do I have the revenue to outsource this task for a minimum of 12-18 months? 3) Am I willing and open to bringing a consultant or agency into my business? . . If the answer to any of those is “no,” then please get to planning and setting up those automations ASAP. Need help? You know where to find me!

Content is all around us. We tend to overthink it but it's a simple concept. . . For example: If you write a blog post, record yourself summarizing it and expanding your thoughts about it for a video, take the audio from that video and make it a podcast, take a sentence from that blog and make it a tweet, post the link to the blog on Facebook and LinkedIn....see what I did there? . . As you're working on your content calendars for next week - or next year - think about content in that way. Stop overthinking it!

In 2014 when I started my business I wanted to offer every service I was "good" at to every person who asked. Over the years I have learned that 1) I may know how to do something but that does not mean I am skilled nor an expert in whatever that thing is. 2) I don't want to work with just ANY business who wants to bring me on board. . . Understanding what your weaknesses are, will give you the freedom to magnify your strengths. I've wasted years trying to target the wrong customer, offering the wrong services, and accepting any project all because I felt I was helping people. In fact, it was only hurting me! . . Are you hurting yourself by targeting the wrong customer? Are you offering services/products that people want but you hate to do/make? It's time to reevaluate our businesses as we prepare for 2020!

As of 1am last night (yes I was awake), there were 20K+ tweets using the hashtag #DeleteFacebook. This was due to our guy Mark being further pressed by Gayle King about a private dinner he had with the president and not wanting to share details. . . On top of that, he doesn't want to take down political ads because "it's really important that people can see for themselves what politicians are saying so they can make their own judgements." . . Gayle even asked him to clarify if he still believes this to be true if the ad contains false information. He stood firmly on this believe. . . Can I remind you that we do not own any of this? By this I'm meaning these usernames, these hashtags, these "friends" online. We are simply borrowing space! It is so important for you OWN your spaces, OWN your customers and OWN your audience. . . Ask yourself...If majority of users decided to abandon Facebook, would you still have a business?

Okay! So you made sales this weekend, now what? You better be compiling those people into an email list! . . Remember though...if you did not tell them that by making a purchase they would be added to their list, you shouldn’t immediately start promoting to them. Instead, you’ll need to start with transactional emails only and try to win their hearts over through emails related to their purchases to get them to subscribe to your list. . . On Thursday morning Instagram was shut down (I feel like it gets shut down once per quarter). This should have been a reminder that we can’t keep solely relying on social media to do the leg work for our businesses. . . This is the last month of 2019, it’s time to level up!
